NETWORK + CERTIFICATION TRAINING PROGRAM (Back to Top)

The Network+ Examination measures the technical knowledge of networking professionals with 18 to 24 months experience in the IT industry. Earning the Network+ certification means that the candidate possesses the knowledge needed to configure and install the TCP/IP client. Following are the key focus areas along with a summary of what is to be learned in that particular section.

Basic Knowledge
Students will learn basic network structures, which include the various topologies, the major network operating systems, the OSI Model, and networking media and connectors. Students will also learn the basic attributes, purpose, and functions of specific networking elements.

Physical, Data Link, Network, and Transport Layers
Students will learn the functions, purpose, and concepts of the four layers that comprise network technology.

TCP/IP Fundamentals
Students will learn the various concepts associated with TCP/IP, including the identification of protocols, IP gateways, port numbers, addressing, and configuration.

Remote Connectivity
Students will learn the purpose, function, attributes, and requirements of remote connection concepts.

Preventive Maintenance
Students will learn about safety and preventive maintenance. With regard to safety, this includes the potential hazards to personnel and
equipment when working with lasers, high voltage equipment, ESD, and items that requires special disposal procedures to comply with environmental regulation. With regard to preventive maintenance, this includes knowledge of preventive maintenance products, procedures, environmental hazards, and precautions when working on microcomputer systems.

Motherboard, Processors, and Memory
Students will learn specific terminology, facts, categories, and principles of motherboards, processors, and memory in microcomputer systems.

Printers
Students will learn basic concepts and types of printers and printer components: how they work, how they print onto a page, paper path, care and service techniques, and common problems.

Basic Networking
Students will learn basic network concepts and terminology, how to determine whether a computer is networked, procedures for swapping and configuring network interface cards, and the ramifications of repairs on a networked computer.

Operating Systems
The A+ Operating System Technologies Examination measures essential operating system competencies for a microcomputer hardware service technician with six months of on-the-job experience. The examinee must demonstrate basic knowledge of Command Line Prompt, Windows 9x and Windows 2000 for installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting, and repairing microcomputer systems. Following are the key focus areas along with a summary of what is to be learned in that particular section.

Operating System Fundamentals
Students will learn about underlying DOS (command prompt functions) in Windows 9x and Windows 2000 in terms of its function and structure. This section also covers navigating through the operating system from command line prompts and Windows procedures for accessing and retrieving information.

Installation, Configuration, and Upgrading
Students will learn how to install, configure, and upgrade Windows 9x and Windows 2000. This includes knowledge of system boot sequences and minimum hardware requirements.

Security
Students will acquire the ability to identify good practices to ensure network security.

Installation
Students will learn how to administer and test accounts, which includes establishing passwords, and IP addresses and configurations. In addition, students will learn the impact of environmental factors on computer networks.

Maintenance and Support
Students will learn standard back-up procedures, the need for periodic application of software patches, and the importance of anti-virus software.

Troubleshooting
Students will learn a systematic approach to identifying the extent of a network problem and how to resolve the problem accordingly.

Learn to lay bricks. Develop skills in the use of hand tools, laying brick to a line, building corners, cutting, various patterns and types of bonds. This course consists of ten sessions. Safety will be emphasized.

COSMETOLOGY (Back to Top)

Beauty is only skin-deep, so it needs to be cared for well. This program, taught in a totally updated laboratory, is designed to prepare students to take the State Board of Cosmetology test upon completion of their 1250 hours of instruction. Course content includes hair care, coloring, cutting and styling; manicures, false nails and pedicures; facials; wigs, weaves, braiding, hair pressing and relaxing: cells and anatomy; light therapy; and salon management. Each student who has obtained 300 hours in the program will be considered to work in the clinic, which is open to the public.

BASIC FIRST AID, CPR/AED CERTIFICATION (Back to Top)

This program developed by the American Heart Association teaches students how to assess and treat illness, injuries, unresponsiveness, bleeding, airway blockage and usage of an Automated External Defibrillator. This is a 4½-hour course, which results in a two-year certification.

INTRODUCTION TO AUTO BODY (Back to Top)

The introduction to Auto Body allows all levels of experience to learn: repair procedures, inspect areas for hidden damage, straightening damaged areas, understand the use and application of different body fillers, surface preparation for refinishing, repair nicks and scratches, as well as paint-less dent removal techniques, and full panel replacement using the latest technology in corrosion protection procedures, and for the more advanced, panel fabrication and custom painting techniques involving air brush operation.

BASIC DIESEL REPAIR (Back to Top)

Introduction to diesel technology. This course consists of an overview of the diesel engine, and some of the tools and equipment used in the heavy-duty truck repair shop. It will also look at basic electric and air brakes. Course will finish with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on heavy-duty trucks.

AUTO AIR CONDITIONING (Back to Top)

The materials covered will give the mechanic and understanding of the environmental concerns associated with the use of Chloro-Fluorocarbons, particularly R-12 & R 134A. Section 609 of the Clean Air Act signed by President Bush on November 15, 1990, states that persons servicing motor vehicle are conditioning systems must be properly trained and certified to do so. This course has been designed to satisfy this section.

I. Principals of basic A&C fundamentals & operation
II. Diagnosing of the refrigerant R12 & R134A
III. Discussion of the use of advanced leak detecting procedures
IV. Demonstration of the essential use of a refrigerant identifier
V. Demonstration of the use of reclaiming/recycling equipment on R12 & R134A
VI. Section 609 of the Clean Air Act and Established Standards
VII. ASE Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Technician Certification
