Reading Program (2010-2011)

The mission of the Dauphin County Technical School is to prepare students to enter post secondary education and industry with the attitude, skills, and knowledge necessary to be successful in a constantly changing and competitive world.

Grade Placement: 9, 10, 11
Prerequisite: READ 180 is a required reading course for students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade who did not score proficient in reading on the 8th grade PSSA Reading test.

Fall placement is based on results from the AGS Group Reading Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation (GRADE) Assessment Test given in the spring. Instruction consists of small group instruction, READ 180 computer based instruction, and modeled and independent student reading and content is focused on comprehension, comprehension, and fluency.

Content focuses on development of comprehension skills. The Corrective Reading program by SRA is the series used for this class.

Content focuses on further development of comprehension skills. The Corrective Reading program by SRA is the series used for this class.

AMP Reading - 1066 B
Credit-1.0
Grade Placement: 11, 12
Prerequisite: This course is required for any student who has not achieved a score of Proficient on either 11th grade PSSA or the spring 4Sight Assessment.

Globe Fearon's AMP Reading System program is used with students to assist them in mastering their ability to read in the areas of fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary
