The mission of the Dauphin County Technical School
is to provide an integrated learning environment that encourages all youth
and adult to reach their fullest academic and occupational potential. The
following courses are designed to help students meet the expectations of Chapter
4 and the PA Academic Standards.

Prerequisite: none
The Physical Education course is designed to meet the needs
and abilities of all students. The program is geared
to team sports, individual sports, recreational, leisure
and lifetime activities. The goal of the program is to
develop favorable attitudes and appreciation towards athletics,
play, leisure, lifetime activities and healthful living
in a vocational oriented education. Understanding
of the game and its rules and safety, development of physical
skills, and making improvements in overall motor fitness
levels and cardiovascular fitness are emphasized. Social
and emotional outcomes such as cooperation, honesty, dependability,
courage, leadership, friendship, sportsmanship and self-confidence
are also stressed.

Prerequisite: Students must be pre-approved by their physician
and the school nurse to enroll in this class.
Adaptive Physical Education is provided for students
who may not safely or successfully engage in unrestricted
participation in the vigorous activities of the general
physical education program. Individual programs
are designed for student needs and rehabilitation purposes.

Strength and Conditioning IGrade placement:

Prerequisite: 2 semesters of required Physical Education
This
course is an elective course for exceptional students who
are willing to work at a highly motivated work pace. The
course does not replace any required physical education
course but may be used for elective credit. This semester
course will take students through various styles and strategies
of weight training and cardiovascular fitness. These individualized
programs will be adjusted as goals are met. Tracking and
recording of the students’ progress will take place.
All classes will be held in the fitness gym. The course
is limited to class size of 18 students.
Grade placement: 11,12
Prerequisite: 2 semesters of required Physical Education,
Strength and Conditioning I
This course does not replace
any required physical education course but may be used
for elective credit. . This semester course will
take students through various styles and strategies of
weight training and cardiovascular fitness. These individualized
programs will be adjusted as goals are met. Tracking
and recording of the students’ progress will take
place. All classes will be held in the fitness gym. The
course is limited to class size of 18 students.

This course is designed to teach the students the value
of staying physically active while developing their sport
skills for present and future leisure pursuits. Students
continue to learn and master and or refine lifetime sports
activities with emphasis on health and sports related fitness,
as they relate to attainment of healthy lifestyle.
Assessment:
Our main assessments will be participation, attitude, and
skill. Units may begin with an outline of terms/rules/scoring
procedures followed by testing at the end of the unit.
Free writing assignments of student self-evaluation may
also be used.
Grade Placement: 11,12
Prerequisite: 2 semesters of required Physical Education,
Advanced Physical Education I
This course is designed to teach the students the value
of staying physically active while developing their sport
skills for present and future leisure pursuits. This is
a semester course that is a continuation of the Advanced
Physical Education I course.

Our main assessments will be participation, attitude, and
skill. Units may begin with an outline of terms/rules/scoring
procedures followed by testing at the end of the unit.

Health Education is designed to encourage the student to
develop sound health preventative measures and good decision
making skills by using up-to-date facts, principles, and
concepts to foster a more productive lifestyle. Students
are encouraged to assume responsibility for their own wellness
and to understand the importance of maintaining a sound
mind in a sound body.

The course
will utilize student-driven activities, such as projects,
discussions, debates and presentations to gain appreciation
of various health topics.
