9th Grade Exploratory Program

When applying for admission to DCTS, 9th grade students select a career and technical area Cluster to explore (see cluster options below).  Students are asked to submit a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice as there is a limited number of spaces in each program in order to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.  Students will participate in ONE cluster and visit each program in that area for the first quarter of the year during periods 7, 8, and 9.  Students will receive a grade based on a consistent rubric in each program which will average to make the overall Exploratory grade.  Students will also have an opportunity to visit one program for one day outside of their cluster if they so desire.  During the exploratory period, students will also complete an interest survey and discuss results with a vocational facilitator.  At the end of the exploratory period students will apply for a final career and technical program of their choice.  Students will discuss this choice with a vocational facilitator.  The final application will again include a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice program.  Established criteria is used to select final placement into programs.  Students may select programs outside of their original cluster as a final choice for placement.  If a student is not accepted in to their first choice, they are able to be put on a waiting list so that if/when an opening becomes available that student may be considered.
